Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS)

Duration: 5½ Years (4½ Years Academic + 1 Year Compulsory Internship)

The BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery) programme is a professional undergraduate degree designed to train students in the principles and practices of traditional Ayurvedic medicine integrated with modern medical sciences. This holistic medical programme prepares graduates to diagnose, treat, and manage health conditions using Ayurvedic therapies and evidence-based practices.

Course Structure & Professional Breakdown

The BAMS curriculum is structured into three professional phases followed by a mandatory rotatory internship:

First Professional (18 Months)
  • Introduction to Ayurveda Principles (Padartha Vigyan & Ayurved Itihas)
  • Sanskrit (Medical Terminology & Classical Texts)
  • Human Anatomy (Rachana Sharir)
  • Human Physiology (Kriya Sharir)
  • Foundation of Ayurvedic Philosophy (Maulik Siddhant & Ashtang Hridaya)
Second Professional (18 Months)
  • Dravyaguna Vigyan (Ayurvedic Pharmacology)
  • Roga Nidan evam Vikriti Vijnana (Pathology)
  • Rasashastra & Bhaisajya Kalpana
  • Swasthavritta (Preventive Medicine & Lifestyle)
  • Agadtantra (Toxicology)
Third (Final) Professional (18 Months)
  • Prasuti Tantra & Stri Roga (Obstetrics & Gynecology)
  • Kaumarbhritya (Pediatrics)
  • Kayachikitsa (Internal Medicine)
  • Panchakarma Therapies
  • Shalya Tantra (Surgery)
  • Shalakya Tantra (ENT / Head-Neck)
  • Research Methodology & Medical Statistics
Compulsory Rotatory Internship (12 Months)

During this final year, students gain hands-on clinical experience across Ayurvedic departments and hospital settings, deepening their practical skills in patient care and therapeutic procedures.

Seat Intake & Admission

Seat Intake: 60 seats

Admission is based on NEET UG performance, followed by centralized counselling through relevant AYUSH/state authorities.

Seat reservations are implemented according to government norms (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PH), and some institutions may also have specific quotas (e.g., government nominations or international seats).

Eligibility & Career Prospects

Candidates must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry & Biology and meet the minimum age/NEET qualification requirements as per regulatory guidelines. Graduates can pursue clinical practice, research, academics, or further specialization (MD/MS in Ayurveda).
